Frequently asked questions

Is a higher salary always worth more?
Not always. A “package” that includes super can be worth less than a lower salary with super on top. Differences in super rates, bonuses and hours also matter. Compare take-home pay, then take-home plus super, then take-home per hour worked.
How much of a pay rise do I actually keep?
Every extra dollar is taxed at your marginal rate, plus the 2% Medicare levy. At $90,000 you keep 68 cents of each extra dollar; above $135,000 it’s 61 cents, and above $190,000 it’s 53 cents. With a HECS-HELP debt you keep less, because repayments rise with income.
Does the comparison include super?
Yes. Each job shows employer super separately, and the “take-home + super” line adds super after the 15% contributions tax, so you can compare total value.
