Frequently asked questions

What income counts for Family Tax Benefit?
Adjusted taxable income: taxable income, plus reportable fringe benefits (only 53% for public benevolent institution and health employers), reportable super contributions, net investment losses, target foreign income and tax-free pensions, less child support you pay. Couples combine incomes for Part A. Part B looks at each partner separately.
When is FTB paid?
Fortnightly, or as a lump sum after the year ends. The Part A and Part B supplements are paid only after you (and your partner) lodge your tax returns and your payments are balanced.
Is this an official estimate?
No. It follows the Family Assistance Act and Services Australia’s published rates, but it leaves out Rent Assistance, the Energy Supplement, Newborn Supplement and some maintenance rules. Use the Services Australia estimator before relying on it.
